Doctoral Programs
The Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics was developed by an international board of scholars in Applied Linguistics and Translation in cooperation with Prof. Dr Basil Hatim and is currently chaired by Prof. Dr Juliane House. The program uniquely balances the study of theory with issues in professional practice in three areas of Applied Linguistics: Teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language, Testing and Translation/Interpretation. It combines residential courses conducted in intensive two-week residencies in Athens with extended on-line faculty contact in pre-scheduled sessions. PhD students become well-equipped practitioners with a solid theoretical background by grounding their expertise in contemporary theory.
Faculty includes internationally distinguished scholars from different subject areas such as Juliane House, Basil Hatim, Ian Mason, Chris Candlin, Diane Larsen Freeman, Phil Scholfield, Robin Worth, James Purpura, and Ulla Connor who teach at some of the most prominent Universities in the USA, Europe, and Australia: Columbia, Michigan, Hamburg, Essex, Macquarie, Wisconsin Madison, Herriot Watt.
