Executive Vice President
Executive Vice President Leonidas Phoebus Koskos
Leonidas Phoebus Koskos is the Founding Executive Vice President of Hellenic American University. Together with Founding President, Chris Spirou, Mr. Koskos set in motion, nurtured, and oversaw the careful planning and substantive curricular agenda that has become the truly “global” academic community of Hellenic American University.
Admitted to the Athens Bar Association, Executive Vice President Koskos took his professional preparation into the executive offices and boardrooms of leading Greek industries. After teaching the Philosophy of Law and Jurisprudence at the University of Athens Law School in his early career, Mr. Koskos forged a highly successful career in business, assuming managerial and governance roles of increasing responsibility. Prominent among the corporate positions he assumed in some of Greece’s most respected firms were the roles of Chairman, President, and Managing Director.
Throughout his business career, Mr. Koskos also devoted his time and leadership to public service, a commitment he keeps to this day. In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of a host of industry and professional organizations fostering the interests of Greece and the European Union, he has focused his advocacy and interests in promoting important social causes, accepting Board appointments to public organizations such as the Social Security Fund of Greece and the Social Fund of the European Union. Taking a sabbatical from the private sector, Mr. Koskos assumed a public calling to become the Chairman and Governor of the National Welfare Organization of Greece from 1989-1992.
Leonidas Phoebus Koskos was appointed Executive Director of the Hellenic American Union by the organization’s Board and membership in 1995. His selection as Executive Director inspired a period of rapid change and growth at the Union. In coordination with the then newly-elected Union President, Chris Spirou, they revitalized the organization’s traditional functions and business, political, social, and cultural networks, and charted an ambitious course for the Union in the areas of language training and testing, as well as executive education. At the time that Hellenic American University was founded and chartered in the United States in 2004, the University’s Board of Trustees looked to Mr. Koskos for his creative vision, steady managerial hand, and proven leadership. A number of the University’s signature programs, the Professional Master’s of Business Administration (PMBA) and the Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics prominent among them, are the product of Mr. Koskos’ strategic, innovative, student-centered, and market-focused influence.
The University’s Executive Vice President is a frequent lecturer and speaker at professional conferences in Greece and abroad. His writing on a variety of issues related to law, business, and economics can be found in both professional and scholarly publications and reports. Mr. Koskos received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in Law, Economics, and Political Science from the University of Athens and Munich University. In 1985, Mr. Koskos was the recipient of the prestigious Eisenhower Fellowship, a distinction awarded by a non-partisan American and international Board seeking to advance sustained global development through the common understanding and informed joint action of leaders in business and government from around the world.
