Mission

The Writing Center’s mission is to improve students’ writing skills in all disciplines and to support their development as confident, effective communicators and critical readers

As the basic learning environment for all writing courses, the Writing Center is fully integrated with the Library, the Writing Program, the General Education Program, and the Writing Across the Curriculum Program (WAC) to ensure the optimal learning experience for University students.

Objectives

The Writing Center aims to:

  • provide an accessible, collaborative environment onsite and online for students to hone their writing skills.
  • teach effective writing concepts and exercises.
  • collaborate with the Writing Program, the WAC Program, the General Education Program, and the Library to encourage the integrated development of writing, critical thinking and communication skills.
  • provide a technologically enhanced classroom environment for writing courses.
  • serve as a writing resource for the University community and the general public through the Writing Center web page, presentations and workshops.
  • encourage the professional development of Writing Center tutors.
