Orientation
Orientation provides students with an opportunity to get acquainted with the university community. They meet faculty and fellow students, visit the facilities, receive useful information on their course of study and university services and participate in team building exercises that help them establish relationships with other students. Students also receive training in the use of technology and library resources of the university.
Core Curriculum (11 courses, 33 credits)
The theoretical core courses provide a foundation in Interpretation Studies and introduce students to the theoretical and conceptual framework of the discipline as well as to research tools. The practical courses equip students on one hand with the skills required for handling consecutive and simultaneous interpreting situations in their respective language pairs and, on the other, shed light to the combined competencies that interpreters need to have for their profession.
Elective Seminar (1 course, 3 credits)
The Elective Seminar will give students the opportunity to explore in more depth, current issues in the field of interpretation. The list of subjects may change every year depending on student demand.
Dissertation (3 credits)
At the end of the taught part of the course students will be required to write a 12,000-word dissertation on a topic that will be agreed with their supervisor. Advice and guidance is given in formulating and refining the research topic, conducting research, analyzing data, literature review and documentation of sources. The dissertation offers students the opportunity to carry out independent research in an area of their interest and apply the knowledge and the skills they have acquired to the investigation of a particular issue or problem.
