Thomas M. Rocco, Ph.D

Dr. Rocco brings to the Hellenic American University extensive experience in key leadership positions in American higher education. He has served as President of Granite State College in New Hampshire, chair of the Post-Secondary Education Commission of the State of New Hampshire, and as Chairman of the Leadership Consulting Corporation.

Dr. Rocco earned his doctorate in Philosophy from Catholic University of America in 1970, with a dissertation on The Ideal Observer Theory of Ethical Statements. He also holds a Master of Arts in Philosophy from the Catholic University of America located in Washington, D.C. In 1961 he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy degree from St. Pius X College in Garrison, New York. He was a full-time, tenured assistant professor in the department of philosophy and religious studies at the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire until 1977, when he changed careers from teaching to academic administration in experimental programs.

From 1977-1983, he served in a variety of roles at the College of New Rochelle, School of New Resources, a highly innovative program serving more than 3000 adult learners in the New York metropolitan area. Among these positions were the director of the Core Program in the Humanities, funded by the NEH, and associate dean responsible for overseeing the academic program of the School at all seven of its campuses and sites. For the next fifteen years, he served as dean and then senior dean in SUNY Empire State College. In the latter role, he was responsible for a portfolio including corporate programs, government contract programs, and international programs. Dr. Rocco was awarded tenure on the faculty of Empire State. Dr. Rocco then assumed the presidency of the Leadership Institute of Seattle, Washington, and the chairmanship of the Leadership Consulting Corporation. He was then president of Granite State College of the University System of New Hampshire. He has also been chair of the Post Secondary Education Commission of the State of New Hampshire, president of the Alliance, an association of experimental colleges serving adult learners and vice president of Collegiate Enterprise Solutions, an academic consulting firm.
